As 2018 ends with the 24th World Climate Summit and a general awareness of the rapidity of climate change and the need to act to limit the global rise in temperatures to less than 2°C, it is time to take stock of climate action of WattElse over the last year.

2018, a year rich in projects

Indeed, 2018 has been rich in projects and realisations of which we are proud. WattElse, whose core business is to prepare and support its customers to anticipate the changes of tomorrow, has decided to fully engage in its energy transition by making investments to reduce its carbon footprint.

In this way, WattElse has invested in a solar system that can produce most of the energy needs of WattElse offices and mobility. This installation, which will be depreciated in 7 years, enables WattElse to ensure an extremely low acquisition cost for the electricity generated over the life of the solar system (25 years).

In the balance of this investment, WattElse decided to acquire 2 electric vehicles for business travel.

This choice became clear after we studied different vehicles available on the market currently. As a result, the electric option had many advantages over its thermic alternative:

  • Electric vehicles have a real autonomy of 250 to 300 km which allows to consider serenely the daily business trips;
  • The online Charge Map application quickly identifies charging station locations throughout Europe for charging vehicles when riding further afield;
  • The installation of a charging station at the workplace maximises the level of self-consumption of the solar system when charging vehicles during the day;
  • In terms of return on investment, the additional acquisition cost of electric vehicles (vehicles + charging station) is amortized in 3 years thanks to a larger tax deduction (120%), the efficiency of electric motors (moving an electric vehicle over 100 km needs 4 times less energy compared to its thermic equivalent), the cost of recharging which in this case is very low thanks to the solar system (€ 1.3 to cover 100km in electric instead of 10 € for the thermic equivalent).

The practice shows us that riding with an electric vehicle is quite possible for most of the trips if we decide to get beyond certain fears and with some organisational adjustments.

In 2018, WattElse took concrete steps towards renewable energy production and clean mobility in order to convince its customers that energy transition is available for everyone and, moreover, profitable for businesses.

In 2019, WattElse is resolutely positioned as the partner of your energy transition.
