Dion - a project for the future - Wind power & storage

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project developed by WattElse will consist of 5 wind turbines which will have a power of between 4 and 6 MW and which will measure a maximum of 210m. In order to manage the intermittency of wind technology, storage solutions for the electricity produced will also be studied in this project.

KEY NUMBERS

INHABITANTS OF THE COMMUNITY

12.000

The commune of Dion has just under 12,000 inhabitants. Following an energy audit, the municipality has for several years been developing improvement projects relating, among other things, to the energy performance of its public buildings: installation of photovoltaic panels, replacement of frames, roof insulation, replacement of boilers, etc…

WIND PROJECT AND STORAGE

9 wind turbines from 4.5 to 6.5 MW

Each wind turbine has a total height ranging from 150m to 210m and the rotor has a diameter of approximately 120 to 155m. The power of each wind turbine is between 4 and 6MW for a total maximum power of 30 MW.

CO2 PRODUCTION, ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

70 GWh per year

The estimated maximum production of the 5 wind turbines is 70 GWh per year, which is equivalent to an average annual consumption of 20,000 Walloon households (based on a consumption of 3,500 kWh/year). These 5 wind turbines will also prevent the emission of nearly 48,000 tonnes of CO per year (CWaPE data compared to a reference gas-steam turbine power plant), which represents the equivalent of the emissions of nearly 17,000 cars.

THE INVESTORS

Environmental studies office

Based in Wallonia, M Tech has already been responsible for drafting more than 50 environmental impact studies in Wallonia.

Project leader and Belgian consultancy office specializing in the energy transition sector.

Active in the development of renewable energy production projects, WattElse is currently working on 500 MW of wind, photovoltaic, biomass and storage renewable production projects in Belgium and France. WattElse also provides support for energy strategy missions for the public and private sector (Industries and SMEs).
